How To Turn A Gallon Milk Jug Into A Bird Feeder

As a homeowner, you can customize your yard to appeal to you and your neighbors. Planting vegetables and plants adds flavor to your yard, but inviting birds makes it even more fascinating.

You can install bird feeders even if you're broke. TikTok creator @jesseandthemunchkins found a great technique to construct a DIY bird feeder by cutting holes in an empty gallon milk jug, puncturing it with sticks, filling it with bird seed, and hanging it in your yard.

Making a feeder from a gallon milk jug is enjoyable for crafters. Having a bird feeder in your yard helps your garden since birds eat insects and weeds. This technique also helps the environment by upcycling plastic instead of throwing it away.

Although you may not want to buy a feeder, you can still enjoy watching birds in your yard. Luckily for you, these feathered companions don't mind the feeder's price as long as it has tasty food.

Cut Gallon Milk Jug Holes and Pour Seed In A clean, dry milk jug, two thin, solid sticks of similar length and girth, a cutting blade, a marker, and a strong, long twine or rope are needed, according to the TikTok video.

Mark four large circles on either side of the milk carton and carve them with the blade. Make sure these feeding holes are large enough for birds. Punch a hole below one of the apertures and push the stick through until it hits the carton's other side.

Mark where it hit and make another hole for the stick. Repeat this on the other side of the gallon to have two perpendicular sticks jutting out from all sides. These perches will sustain the feeder and suit all your bird buddies.

To hang the DIY bird feeder, punch two holes near the gallon milk jug lid and slide the rope through, knotting it at the top. Final step: fill the jug with birdseed and hang it on a tree or pole.
